WHAT ARE YOUR EARLIEST MEMORIES?
The words were crudely written on the wall with what looked like black paint. What was her earliest memory? She pondered the thought, clicking her tongue. Why was that even there? She looked around skeptically, expecting danger at any moment in the wide open. She shook her red head and decided to sit down under the words. Vivienne should get a move on but she needed to rest. Walking for almost a day exhausted her to no extent. Her deep blue eyes looked around, imagining before the virus. She had been young at the time, only 8. Thinking back, she didn’t think she could really remember a time before the virus. She only learned of the time before from the books she had picked up along the way. It looked like it had at one time been maybe the middle of a town but now there were quarantine walls built to make a cul de sac. The buildings were long forgotten and probably many of them were filled with humans who were infected with Cordyceps Brain Infection or CDI.
Vivienne sighed and took her pack out off of her back. Digging around, she found the stale bread from the quarantine zone she had come from. She took a bite, savoring the fact that she even was alive. The Fireflies had taken her under their wing and then left her to fend for herself in the vast world. They had helped her escaped, making her way towards New York where it was believed to be a cure.
She didn’t know much only that they would help her get to New York to help them steal the cure but it wasn’t long until one by one, each of them were being picked off by zombies. Vivienne could only guess that the others in the group high tailed it out of there in the brink of night to go back to the city.
Vivienne was furious and thought that she should go back and kick the leader’s ass but she knew it would be no good. It would be best to keep moving towards her destination. She kept her anger in check because people were still monsters when the world was being taken over. Looking beside her, her German Shephard Ripley, waged his tail and whined a bit. Vivienne smiled and pushed a piece of bread towards him. "Here you go boy. It's all I have right now." The two of them were a team and Vivienne would do anything to keep him alive. It was all she had left.
Taking another bite of the food, she stuffed it back into the brown military grade backpack and started to gather sticks to build a fire. Ripley followed silently behind her. It was starting to get dark and she would need to get into one of these buildings. It wasn't long before she was in a building, cleared it out and on the top floor, she settled down. The ceiling was caved in for half of the room and it looked like it might have been an office before. Computers and desks lined the room and Vivienne stripped a couple of the chairs of it's padding to sleep on. It wasn't much but with the fire going and Ripley laying beside her, she was content she was safe.
Drifting off, Vivienne dreamed of her flying across the world, looking for paradise.
